Vancouver is British Columbia’s west coast jewel. Surrounded on three sides by water and nestled beneath the peaks of the Coast Mountain Range, Canada’s largest west coast city attracts millions of visitors each year from all over the world. Its close proximity to numerous ski resorts and summer recreation areas makes it one of North America’s top vacation destinations.

Located less than 40 miles from the Canada-US border, Vancouver is an easy drive from Seattle, Washington. The Vancouver International Airport, located less than an hour from city center, receives daily flights from all over the world. Travelers arriving from B.C.'s Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands points of departure along the Sunshine Coast and from Washington State's San Juan Islands can also connect to the Vancouver mainland via ferry through the nearby Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay terminals.

The winter recreation opportunities at Garibaldi Mountain and the Whistler-Blackcomb Resort at Whistler are less than a half-day’s drive from downtown and offer some of the best skiing and snowboarding facilities in North America. The winter resorts of the Okanagan Valley and the BC Rockies are a comfortable ride from city center as well. Summer recreation in and around the Vancouver area includes boating, water skiing, hiking, wild life viewing and backcountry camping.

A multicultural center for Western Canada, Vancouver offers the very best in dining opportunities. Ethnic cuisine includes Canadian First Nations, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Italian, Thai, Latin American and Middle Eastern dishes. Vancouver’s small residential neighborhoods, which are spread throughout the city are excellent locations to find a quaint restaurant, pub or out-of-the-way coffee house.

Theater and music productions can be found in the city’s downtown quarter, but are also scattered throughout Vancouver’s many multicultural neighborhoods.

Accommodations are not hard to find either, although travelers who plan to visit during the popular summer and winter seasons are advised to reserve their lodgings well in advance.

Explore Whistler in more detail by clicking through the pages listed in the navigation column at left and the links they provide to more detailed descriptions and presentations.
