Fine dining and great wines are two excellent reasons to visit Ashland, Oregon, but the annual Oregon Shakespeare Festival is favorite for thousands. The festival takes place this year from February 15 through November 2. Those who enjoy contemporary theatre will find a sampling of entertainment to take in as well.
Yellowstone National Park - Some say the best time to visit Yellowstone is during the winter, when the crowds are gone and Mother Nature takes over. Cross-country skiing and sno-coach tours begin December 19. A limited number of groomed roads are open to winter travel, from the North, West, South and East entrances. Roads close to winter travel beginning March 2 and reopen in April. See http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/hours.htm for information.
Polish those skis! West Yellowstone, Montana’s renown Rendezvous Race will take place February 23 this year. A member of the American Ski Marathon Series, it’s a national favorite for both veteran and novice skiers. Skiers can take part in 2K, 5K, 10K, 25K (classic) or 50K races in terrain that was made for cross-country skiing! Check out the Rendezvous http://www.rendezvousrace.com for more information.
The Pacific Rim Whale Festival kicks off March 15 in Tofino and Ucluelet, British Columbia, and is dedicated to the migration and protection of the grey whale. Dozens of events, plus superb whale-watching opportunities take place throughout the eight-day festival. It’s an event not to be missed!
U.S./Canada travelers will wish to take note that there are new documentation requirements in place as of January 31, 2008. Individuals entering the United States by land (including U.S. citizens and legal residents) must now show proof of citizenship and acceptable proof of identity at the border crossing. See the U.S. Customs and Border Protection link for a list of acceptable forms of identification and reasons for this change.
