North Idaho Travel Region

Post Falls, Idaho

Post Falls, known as Idaho's River City, is located in Northern Idaho situated along I-90 between Coeur d'Alene and Spokane, Washington.

Post Falls is named for the German immigrant Fredrick Post who built a lumber mill along the Spokane River. The land was purchased from the Chief of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, Andrew Seltice and the deal was recorded on a prominent rock located in Treaty Rock Park.

The Spokane River runs through the core of town providing whitewater rafting adventures, fishing opportunities and other water activities such as swimming and boating. Hiking and biking are popular pastimes on the scenic North Idaho Centennial Trail which extends from the Washington-Idaho state line to Higgins Point on Lake Coeur d'Alene. Much more outdoor recreation is found at the local parks like rock climbing at Q'Emiln Park and skateboarding at Millennium Park.

While in Post Falls be sure to stop by Falls Park for a scenic view of Post Falls Dam. The centerpiece of Falls Park is a fishing pond for handicapped people and the youth. An ADA compliant swing with a heavy-duty reclining seat that can be easily transferred from a wheelchair and can accommodate up to 225 pounds is available to children with motor skill disabilities.
