Location
Encircled by Salmon National Forest, the Rocky Mountain town of Salmon lies
at the confluence of the Lemhi and Salmon rivers, which are followed by the
main routes into town.
It is about ten miles (as the crow flies) west of the
Idaho – Montana border, where it is on the continental divide.

Getting
to Salmon
Main routes into town are US 93 from the north and south, and ID 28 from the
southeast. US 93 forms part of the Salmon River Scenic Byway. There are some spectacular passes to cross if you are coming over
the Beaverhead / Bitterroot Ranges to the east, (including Lemhi Pass and
Lost Trail Pass). Closest interstate is I-15 to the east.
