Area Events
Horseback riding: The Bar W has put together a portfolio of riding terrain that will provide awe-inspiring trails or prairies. We ride under a special use permit from the United States Forest Service and are permitted on close to a million acres of land. Take your fishing pole on the horseback ride and drop it in one of the many lakes that we pass along the way – the fishing is great and you will have a ball!
Indoor Arena: The indoor arena is used during inclement weather to work on horsemanship skills, to take lessons and for our trainers to work with horses. It is a wonderful place to feel safe to learn new skills.
Outdoor Arena: The Outdoor Arena also is used for horsemanship clinics, barrel racing, pole bending, egg races and working with cattle.
Cattle Work: Cattle work in the outdoor arena consists of team penning and sorting and for those more experienced riders roping lessons are also available. Ever want to move cattle without the rigors of a full blown cattle drive? We'll move cattle for a day or two and if the timing is right you'll be able to learn branding.
Riding Lessons: Our wranglers are top notch with some national championships on their belt buckles. Whether it is simply the basics, reining, roping, or barrel racing; our wranglers have got you covered and can teach you the basics to the more advanced skills.
Lake
Fishing: Fish in Spencer lake for large pike, perch or
bass. Perhaps a trout still lingers in this once rated trophy trout
lake.
Boating and Swimming: Boating and swimming in Spencer lake is a wonderful way to shake off the heat of the day or just enjoy the beauty of the lake and its surroundings.
Hiking: Hiking is abundant on the miles and miles of trails surrounding the ranch with wildlife galore.
Mountain Biking: The Spencer Mountain unit is a mountain bikers delight with terrain for the beginner or the most advanced riders – just ask us and we'll show you the way.
Campfires and Camping Out: We'll have campfires during the week with sing-alongs, delectable s'mores and marshmallows. For the adventurous, experience the outdoors and campout in the south forty.
Wagon Rides and Dinner Rides: Wagon Rides and Dinner Rides are a boat load of fun and bring you back to the way things were. The sound of the horses hooves in sync with each other and the strength of the horses sooths the soul. After a wonderful ride, sit down and enjoy a great Montana dinner out at the Play Meadow or the Gazebo with a live country singer to munch by.
Square Dancing: Kick up your heels and stomp those feet to some of the most fun west of the Mississippi. Let the "Caller" direct you, step-by-step, to the dances he dreams up to put a real smile on your face. You will have an absolute ball dancing the Virginia reels, Waltzes, as well as Square Dancing.
Other Activities: Other activities include archery, clay pigeon skeet shooting, horseshoes, volleyball, wildlife photography, bird watching, and more.
The Main Lodge: The main lodge is 6,200 square feet of classic elegance and traditional western informality. The lodge has 6 bedrooms, three common areas, and a game room. There is no shortage of great views from the decks that overlook the back horse pasture, the arena, and even the wildlife rich wetlands surrounding Spencer Lake.
Aspen Suite: The Aspen suite is beautifully appointed with a king bed, a Jacuzzi, large in room full bath, private deck, television and a great view. The Aspen Suite also has bunk beds in an attached but separate room.
Solitude: The Solitude has a full bath two beautiful log wood futons and a queen bed sleeping up to 6 very comfortably.
Whitetail: A real favorite amongst guests, sleeps two in a queen bed, and can also accommodate two more on a full-sized futon. It has a full bath, large walk-in closet and a great view of the property and the lake.
Tamarack: The Tamarack is on the main floor. It sleeps two with a queen bed, and has a walk out to the main deck overlooking the south pasture. It has a half bath directly across the hall with access to a full bath one floor up or down.
Appaloosa: Appaloosa is our most affordable room, which is a short distance from the game room on the first floor. The room is furnished with log furniture and has a queen bed. A full bath is directly across the hall.
Sunroom: Sit on your walk out patio, sip a beverage and watch all the operations of the ranch. The Sunroom has a queen bed, full bath in room and an adjoining yet separate room with a sitting area, bunk beds and two full sized futons making it a great family room sleeping up to 8.
Game Room: The game room is equipped with a big screen television, a pool table, dartboard, wood stove, card table/chess set, a bar area and lots of room to move about. There are two futons in the basement as well for a family style sleeping arrangement.
