Gearhart, Oregon
Gearhart, Oregon is often mistaken to be part of the bustling city of Seaside. Located at the northern edge of this popular coastal city, 10 miles from the northwest tip of Oregon, Gearhart is in fact a town of its own and the home of a comfortable upscale retirement community. Known for its small, intimate atmosphere and fashionable restaurants, it is typical of many of the communities that thrive along the Oregon Coast.
Vacation rentals are a favorite attraction in Gearhart, which caters to the visitor that enjoys a quieter, slow-paced vacation. Many of these vacation homes are situated on the beach.
Gearhart Beach, located in town, is one of the few public beaches in Oregon where visitors are permitted to drive on the sand. Many people however, prefer to enjoy Gearhart's scenic beauty by foot.
Golfers have been coming to Gearhart since the late 1800s, and the small community continues its reputation today as a popular golfing destination. The town has two courses, both with breathtaking views and well-maintained properties.
There are a number of state parks in the Gearhart-Seaside area that are worth visiting. Del Rey Beach (2 miles north of Gearhart), provides an unspoiled beach experience with relatively few amenities. Sunset Beach, a few miles further north, strives to recreate the views of the Lewis and Clark team when they traveled the 6.5 miles between Fort Clatsop and the Pacific Ocean. The area's most popular campsite-equipped park is Fort Stevens, at the northwest tip of Oregon, approximately 10 miles north of Gearhart. Full hook ups, yurts and conventional tent campsites are available, and visitors won't want to miss the fascinating historical displays on site that date back to the Civil War.
