Reedsport, located at the confluence of Smith River, Schofield Creek and Umpqua River, is a magnet for fishing enthusiasts, particularly those who enjoy getting "off the beaten track" for a good catch. The Reedsport and Winchester Bay area offers easy access to both offshore and river fishing.
Dune riding is the area's second most popular sport. Reedsport and Winchester Bay, lay claim to some of the highest sand dunes in North America. ATV'ers and dune buggy enthusiasts come from all over the country to ride the dunes at The Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area. The recreational area, which stretches more than 40 miles north and south of Reedsport is a favorite location for hikers as well.
Campers will enjoy Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, which overlooks Lake Marie and is equipped for RVs, tent camping and day use.
Over the years, Reedsport's diverse cultural and ecological history has given rise to a number of unique attractions. Its award-winning Tsalila Festival, which takes place each September, combines Native American culture and tradition with educational exhibits on ecology, watershed restoration and salmon recovery. The Umpqua Discovery Center, in Reedsport, builds upon this theme with exhibits on the area's cultural ancestry. The Discovery Center also overlooks the beautiful Umpqua River and provides education about the surrounding Umpqua River Estuary.
