Activities

With Waldport being situated on the Oregon Coast, recreational activities are abundant. Waldport is best known for its abundant crabbing and fishing. Several marinas offer boating and camping opportunities. Within a ten mile radius there are numerous Oregon State Parks featuring wonderful beach activities and hiking trails. Festivals and Events

Beachcomber Days
In June this event starts with live music and dancing, karaoke contest and bon fire. There is a parade, scavenger hunt and many more activities. Contact the Chamber of Commerce at 541-547-4173 for additional information.

Clam-A-Rama
This family friendly event is all about clamming. Trophies are awarded daily for largest clam, largest family participating, youngest and oldest participants. This event is located at Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center at the south end of Waldport Bridge in August. Contact the Chamber of Commerce at 541-547-4173 for additional information.

Located on the waterfront just upriver from the mouth of Alsea Bay, the Port offers beach access, a viewing platform and crabbing float to see the marine life up close while crabbing, launch ramp, boat moorage and picnic areas. Close by are restaurants and places to purchase crab rings, bait, fishing tackle and rent boats.

National Forest

Located east of Waldport along the Alsea River on Highway 34, the Alsea River Corridor is a prime destination for fishing and hunting. There are plenty of trails for hiking in the Old Growth Forests within Drift Creek Wilderness, Harris Ranch and Horse Creek Trails.

City Parks

Crestline Park
Located at the intersection of Crestline Drive and Range Drive, this park features a skate park, trail and children's play area.

The Woodland Trail
This one mile hiking trail (moderate level), runs from the south end of Crestline Park to the Kendall Ballfields with several access points. Benches scattered throughout the route. Enjoy viewing the coastal habitat with a variety of flora and wildlife.

State Parks

Open year round, the interpretive center offers guided walking tours of the bridge, demonstrations of clamming and crabbing, picnic areas and restrooms.

Located a few miles south of Waldport, Beachside lies along a sandy beach ideal for kite flying, storm and whale watching. This park features camping, hiking and biking trails, fishing and other beach activities. Picnic area, ADA restrooms and showers are available.

Also known as Ona Beach, (this park was renamed in 2013 to honor the first Oregon State Parks and Recreation chairperson), Brian Booth park is a day use park with easy access to beach and is perfect for large gatherings. Fishing and kayaking are popular recreational activities. ADA picnic areas and restrooms are available.

Driftwood is a day use park open year round offering access to the ocean, fishing and beachcombing. ADA accessible picnic areas and restrooms are available.

Governor is a day use park open year round. A short hike from the mouth of Alsea Bay offers windsurfing, crabbing and seal watching. Popular activities include hiking trail, fishing, whale and storm watching. ADA accessible picnic areas and restrooms are available.

Located 7 miles south of Newport, Lost Creek has beach access, fishing, picnicking and whale watching opportunities. Restrooms are available.

Seal Rock State Recreation Site. Phone: 541-867-7451; Information: 1-800-551-6949. GPS: 44.497379, -124.083082.

Seal Rock is a day use park open year round. Large off shore rock formations are home to seals, sea lions, marine birds and other marine life. Activities include hiking trails, beach access and fishing. ADA accessible picnic areas, wildlife viewing areas and restrooms are available.

Open year round, Smelt Sands is a day use park known for tide pooling and rock fishing. There is a viewpoint for whale watching and a historic walking trail. Restrooms are available.

W.B. Nelson is a small day use park with a small freshwater lake and fishing dock and is known for abundant waterfowl with the scenic wetland. A hiking trail, picnic area and ADA accessible restrooms and wildlife viewing site are available.

Located south of Yachats, this one mile scenic loop shows amazing viewpoints of Yachats Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Stop anywhere on the loop to access the beach, tide pools, and whale watching.

Located in the heart of Yachats, this day use park offers a scenic view of Yachats River where it meets the Pacific Ocean. Here you can watch the gray whales migrations. Featured activities include rock and salmon fishing. ADA accessible restrooms are available.
