Festivals and Events

Hells Canyon Mule Days
Held at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds this festival features three days of rodeo-type events that take place annually the weekend after Labor Day. Enjoy a Dutch Oven cookoff, quilt show, non-motorized parade, a mule and donkey auction, the fast ass express, wild cow milking and a variety of mystery animal races.

During the Labor Day Weekend this music festival is held at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds.

Outdoor Recreation

Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Site. Off Highway 82, one mile north of Wallowa Lake on the south end of Joseph. GPS: 45.341634 N; -117.223683 W.

Sixty two acres of rolling grassland offers hiking trails with stunning views of the Wallowa Mountains and Knight's Pond plus beautiful wildflowers in the spring and summer.

Wallowa Lake Highway Forest State Scenic Corridor. Off Highway 82, 12 miles west of Enterprise. Toll-free: 1-800-551-6949. GPS: 45.622777 N; -117.684166 W.

A popular fishing spot, this day use park has the clear and cold Wallowa River flowing through the park. Steelhead fishing is great in the spring and fall as is fly fishing since there are many locations to wade in. Springtime brings an abundance of wildflowers. View wildlife such as deer, elk and bear.

Wallowa Lake is popular for fishing , boating and canoeing. Hiking the wilderness trails, horseback riding, bumper boats, miniature golf and the gondola ride are some of the many activities around the area.

Fishing, hunting, OHV riding, hiking trails, cross country skiing and snowshoeing are some of the activities to do in the popular recreation areas including the Eagle Cap Wilderness, Lostine River Canyon, Hurricane Creek, Reds Horse Ranch, the Lakes Basin, Wallowa Lake Tram, Moss Springs, Catherine Creek, West and East Eagle, Fish Lake, Cornucopia, Clear Creek and the Lostine, Minam, Imnaha and Eagle Creek Rivers.

Snow Skiing

Salt Creek Summit Sno-Park. Located 20 miles southeast of Joseph on Forest Road 39 and adjacent to the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway, this Sno-Park is popular for snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. A large parking area and winter maintenance facility with a vault toilet are also available.
