Puget Sound Travel Region

Lacey, Washington

Lacey, located on the Puget Sound at the western side of the Cascade Mountains adjoins the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. With access from Interstate 5, Lacey is minutes from the state capitol, Olympia, and approximately 45 minutes from Seattle.

Originally called Woodland after the settlers Isaac and Catherine Wood claimed land in 1853, Lacey was renamed for the attorney and developer O. C. Lacey. During this time forest products and retail were the main industries. Presently the city thrives with retail, warehousing and distribution centers, a large retirement community and even a mushroom farm.

Situated close to the Nisqually Valley, as well as many lakes and forests, provides ample recreational activities. Lacey is home to wonderful community parks, championship fairways and miles of trails for hiking and biking.
