Chelan Description
Chelan
is a resort community offering boating, fishing, golfing and bicycling rentals. There is also plenty
of swimming and hiking to be had in the area.
Location
The township of Chelan lies
at the tip of Lake Chelan. The Cascades
map
(right) will help you locate it.
Getting to Chelan
Road
 Main routes in are US 97, WA 151, and
US 2 from the southeast. Closest Interstate is I-90 to the south.
Rail
The daily Amtrak passenger
service, the
Empire Builder, runs
between Seattle/Portland and Chicago. Nearby depot is 45 miles south
in Wenatchee. From Wenatchee,
the
LINK Transit system
provides bus service
to Chelan daily, except on Saturdays, Sundays and
holidays. There is a $1 fee for riding the
bus, exact change. If you ask, they will stop at the Lake Chelan Boat
Company, otherwise the main stop is in town, near hotels and motels.

information. Inquire about luggage restrictions. Link
asks that groups of people who will be using their service from Wenatchee to
Chelan call them ahead of time and make arrangements.

Lake Chelan State Park
The lake is deep; much of it is one third
of a mile deep, with the bottom below sea level. The park offers 127 standard sites, 17 utility sites, 4 comfort stations, 52
picnic sites, a picnic shelter, playground equipment, bathhouse, 300 linear feet of beach,
boat launch and dock, water ski floats, 2 residences, garage, homestead cabin, contact
station, trailer dump.
Chelan Flyers
Web is hosted by "a band of flight junkies", who practice their hang gliding
skills and offering information and training for others. Web has photos and
information about events lessons.
The Creation of the First
Indians
A creation tale as told by the Chelan Indians. The lake is called Lake Chelan
(pronounced sha-lan), meaning "Beautiful Water".
