Enumclaw, Washington
Enumclaw, located at the bottom of the Cascade Foothills, sits on the Enumclaw Plateau that was formed by a volcanic mudflow from Mount Rainier nearly 5,700 years ago. Approximately 10,669 people reside in the city.
Early settlers called the area Stevensonville for Frank and Mary Stevenson who homesteaded what is now the center of town. Later the name was changed to Enumclaw which means thundering noise after Enumclaw Mountain.
As the gateway to both of the north entrances to Mount Rainier National Park along with four nearby state parks, Enumclaw offers endless year round outdoor recreation. Miles of trails winding through forests and following rivers provide beautiful scenery for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Swimming, boating and fishing in the Green and White Rivers are fun summer past times while snow skiing and other snow activities are found at Mt. Rainier National Park and Crystal Mountain.
