Lummi Island

Lummi Island is a quiet island easily accessible near Bellingham with beautiful vistas of the Salish Sea. The Island is home to a thriving artist community.

The island is named after Sir William Bellingham, the British Navy's storekeeper, who personally checked the supplies of explorer George Vancouver, prior to the captain's departure from England in 1791.

Baker Preserve
This 80 acre portion of the Baker Ranch is now owned by Lummi Island Heritage Trust and is located on Seacrest Drive about one third of a mile south of the Sunrise Road intersection. The Baker Trail climbs steeply up Lummi Mountain for 1.6 miles to an overlook that offers scenic views of Rosario Strait and the San Juan Islands. At the trailhead is a kiosk with a trail map and a sign in sheet that is a must.
