A seaside playground for the
Suquamish Indians in the 19th century, Southworth became a vacation retreat
in the 20th century for Seattle residents. Docks constructed to serve the
Mosquito Fleet vessels and private boat owners before automobiles were
invented in the 1920's now await the large ferries bound for West Seattle. A
small town with one grocery store still operating in the original early
1890's building and a small post office of the same vintage comprise
Southworth's downtown.
