Inside the Park


Park accommodations include campgrounds; rustic cabins; modern motel-type facilities; and large hotel-like lodges dating from the early 1900s.

All accommodations within the park, other than campgrounds, are operated by concessionaires. Campgrounds are operated by the National Park Service.

Chalets

Earlier this century, the Great Northern Railway built chalets to market Glacier National Park as the "Switzerland of America". Although many no longer exist, Granite Park Chalet and Sperry Chalet are open to the public and operated by concessionaires. Be warned that the former has no running water. The most popular route to Granite Park Chalet is a 7-mile hike along the Highline Trail from Logan Pass.

Village Inn at Apgar.West side of the park on the south shore of Lake McDonald in the village of Apgar, which is just off the Going-to-the-Sun Road approximately 3 miles from the west entrance to the park. Phone: 406-892-2525.

The motel was built in 1956 and offers 36 rooms, each with a view of Lake McDonald and beach accessibility. Twelve of the rooms have kitchens and some of these are two-bedroom units. Dining facilities, however, are only available in nearby Apgar as well as at Lake McDonald Lodge.

Built in 1913 as a hunting lodge, Lake McDonald Lodge offers 100 rooms that are a combination of motel, lodge, and cabin accommodations. Nightly Park Ranger talks, cruises on the lake and fishing are some of the favorite activities available at the hotel.

Rising Sun Motor Inn. East side of the park on the Going-to-the-Sun Road approximately 5 miles west of the Saint Mary Entrance, which is located just off of US Highway 89 at St. Mary, MT. Phone: 406-892-2525.

The Rising Sun Inn offers a 72 rooms in a complex of three buildings and 36 cottages. All rooms feature standard double beds and/or twin beds and private bathrooms. Motor Inn rooms are motel-style accommodations located on the hillside overlooking the complex. Store Motel rooms are motel-style and are located in the same building as the Camp Store. Cottage rooms are rustic rooms within duplex-style cottages located along the winding roadway through the complex.

The Swiftcurrent Motor Inn is a complex which includes 88 rooms, of which 62 are modern hotel rooms and 26 are cabins without baths. Swiftcurrent includes a camp store, the Italian Gardens restaurant, public showers and a public laundry. Park Naturalists lead daily hikes and Park Rangers give evening campfire talks.

Many Glacier Hotel is the largest hotel in the park with 211 rooms and was built during 1914 and 1915. It is located on Swiftcurrent Lake and offers views of Grinnell Point and Mt. Henkel. Park Rangers deliver interpretive talks on all aspects of the park each evening.
