Grants Pass, Oregon

Grants Pass may not be Oregon's only gateway to the mighty Rogue River, but it is the most famous. Known as the "river rafting capital of Oregon," Grants Pass is located approximately 50 miles northwest of Ashland and the California border, on the banks of the picturesque Rogue River. Its proximity to landmarks such as Crater Lake and the Oregon Caves makes it one of the most popular travel destinations in Southern Oregon.

Bordered by the Coast Mountains on the west and the Cascade Mountains on the east, it is within easy reach of several Alpine ski and winter recreation areas. Nordic (cross-country) skiing, snowmobiling and a wide range of summer activities are available in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, west of the city.

Dining opportunities in Grants Pass span the globe, ranging from down-home American dishes to Thai, Mexican and Vegetarian selections. Accommodations include bed and breakfast inns, and a selective choice of motels and hotels.

Attractions in the Grants Pass area are numerous. The city's downtown section has recently been declared a National Historic District and is worth a stroll. Located less than an hour north of popular Medford and Ashland, Grants Pass is surrounded by wineries, many of which offer summer events and wine tastings to the public. Also located in Grants Pass is the Wild Images Rehabilitation and Education Center, a nonprofit organization that rehabilitates wild animals. Public tours are available.
