Birding

Cascade Loop of the Great Washington Birding Trail
This loop takes you along the inland coastal waters of the Pacific Ocean where you can view shorebirds. Then the trail turns east through conifer forests and over the passes of the Cascade Mountains. Expect to see Bald Eagles, Snow Geese, Trumpeter and Tundra Swans.

Located on the shoreline of Padilla Bay, Bay View has an Interpretive Center and provides views of the San Juan Islands.

Rasar is a camping park with 4,000 feet of freshwater shoreline on the Skagit River. Recreational opportunities include fishing, over 3 miles of hiking trails along with 1 mile of ADA accessible hiking trails, bird watching including eagle watching, wildlife viewing and playground equipment for children.

Parks and Gardens

Bakerview is a 39 acre park with an off-leash dog park, BMX track, skate park, roller hockey, playground, grassy play area, soccer fields, basketball court, sand volleyball courts, walking paths, picnic areas, concessions and restrooms.

Located on the west side, Edgewater is over 50 acres big with a boat launch, soccer and softball fields, playground, grassy play area and restrooms.

Hillcrest Park. 1717 S. 13th Street, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. Phone: 360-336-6215.

Enjoy the beautiful gardens and nature area or have a picnic at Hillcrest Park. There are walking paths, a basketball court, soccer fields, softball field, lighted tennis courts, Eagle Rock Challenge Course and a community building. Pets are welcome if they are on a leash. Conveniently located in the center of Mount Vernon.

Kiwanis offers a water spray park, a boardwalk trail that travels through a wetland area connecting the park to surrounding neighborhoods, picnic tables, playground for children, basketball court and softball field.

Little Mountain Park. 300 Little Mountain Road, Mount Vernon, WA 98274. Phone: 360-336-6215.

Located south of city limits, Little Mountain Park is the largest city park with a 1½ mile paved road leading up to Little Mountain where you can view the amazing scenery of Skagit Valley, San Juan Islands, Olympic Mountains, and the tulip fields under a covered viewpoint. The north viewpoint provides a stunning view of Mount Baker. There are numerous hiking trails throughout the park. This is an ideal location for hang gliding.
