Seattle lies in the Puget Sound region of western Washington State (the dark blue area on the map, left). The city is 113 miles (182 km) south of the US-Canadian border in the far northwestern corner of the continental United States. The waters that lap the feet of Seattle's city towers, however, are not strictly those of the Pacific Ocean. For in-between Seattle and the great ocean lies the Olympic Peninsula.
