Victor Steinbrueck Park, corner of Western Avenue and Virginia Street, on the north end of Pike Place Market, Downtown.

Getting there
From the Westlake Center, take a pleasant 10-minute walk west along Pike Street to the entrance of Pike Place Market. The street becomes "Pike Place" and turns right. Continue along Pike Place past the produce market and outdoor stalls and you will see this oasis of green (and blue on a sunny day) to your left.

Notes and tips
The park is named for the architect active in preserving the Pike Place Market against proposals to tear it down the in the 1960s.

The park sits along side Western Avenue and overlooks Elliott Bay. In the photo above, note Duwamish Head of West Seattle to the left, and the Olympic Mountains in the distance to the right.

Popular with tourists and locals alike, you are bound to find the park "littered with bodies" in good weather. You probably will want to make a visit to the park a part of your itinerary for exploring downtown Seattle.

The park is a great spot for a picnic lunch, even with the roar of traffic coming up from the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Some seating is covered. Be prepared to share picnic tables and benches with all types of folks. In the spring and summer you might even encounter live jazz and other music performances.

There are restrooms at the Pike Place Market.

The Views
Victor Steinbrueck Park offers 160º views over the port of Seattle and Elliott Bay - from Mount Rainier to the south, to the Olympic Mountains stretching around to the north.
