Scenic Byway

Chinook Scenic Byway
From Enumclaw, travel along the White River, over Chinook Pass to the fertile valley of Naches. The byway winds through Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and Mount Rainier National Park providing amazing views of Mount Rainier, dense forests, waterfalls and the unique basalt flows of the Columbia Plateau. Allow yourself 3 hours to drive the 85 miles (136 km) byway.

State Parks

Federation Forest State Park. 49201 Highway 410 E, Enumclaw, WA 98022. Phone: 360-902-8844.

Located 18 miles east of Enumclaw, Federation Forest has over 600 acres of old growth evergreens, Douglas firs, western hemlock, Sitka spruce and western red cedar trees. This day use only park offers 12 hiking trails and 3 interpretive trails where you can hike through 5 distinct ecosystems. Children will be delighted with the short interpretive loops. Take a picnic to enjoy in one of the four designated areas. An interpretive center with a gift shop is also located here.

Located between Auburn and Black Diamond, Flaming Geyser Park is named for its well-known feature the “geysers” or methane seeps. The geyser is a flame burning the remnants of a methane gas pocket almost 1,000 feet below the surface. At one time the flames shot upwards of 25 feet. Today the flame is only a few inches high. The other unique feature to this park is the flying area for remote controlled model airplanes. Softball and other games can be played in the open lawn area and there is an open field for horseback riding. Hiking trails wind through the forest and along the Green River.

Located 11 miles northeast of Enumclaw and open year-round, Kanaskat-Palmer is a camping park sitting on a small, low plateau in a natural forest setting. Two miles of shoreline on the Green River provide rafting and kayaking (expert level only) and trout fishing. Boat and raft launching is by hand only.

Nolte State Park was a former vacation resort known as Deep Lake Park. In the early 1970's this resort was donated to Washington State by Minnie Nolte. The Nolte family owned this resort. This summer day use park has grassy lawns on the shore of a small lake (Deep Lake) as well as forests.
