ATTRACTIONS

Points of Interest

Dry Falls
As the name suggests, Dry Falls no longer carries water, but is the remnant of what was once the largest waterfall known to have existed on earth. Viewing the 3.5 miles of sheer cliffs that drop 400 feet, it is easy to imagine the roar of water pouring over them. (Niagara Falls by comparison, is one mile wide with a drop of 165 feet). To get to Dry Falls, turn south of Highway 2 onto Highway 17, and drive to the visitor center which is in sight of the highway, on the east side.

Lake Lenore Caves
Located approximately 15 miles south of Coulee City in Highway 17, you'll find a parking lot where you can stretch your legs. (A Discover Pass is required). The lake Lenore Caves were formed during the Great Missoula Flood and were then used by early Native Americans for shelter and storage. Head to the trail at the south end of the parking lot where it will take you to several cave openings of varying sizes. If you hike far enough along the path, you can view petroglyphs carved into stone by the nomadic natives. The same trail will lead you back to the parking lot. This is a 1.5 mile trail, round trip, with an elevation gain of 200 feet and the highest point is 1,300 feet. The Washington Trails Association (WTA) describes the hike to Lake Lenore Caves.

Scenic Drives

Coulee Corridor National Scenic Byway
This 150 mile/241.4 km scenic drive tells the story of the Ice Age Flood providing one of the most unique landscapes in the USA. Travelling the Corridor takes you through three state parks, a national wildlife refuge and nine towns. There is an abundance of recreational activities for all to enjoy. The North section begins in Omak and heads down to Nespelem, Coulee Dam and Electric City. Besides the Coulee Dam, other points of interest are the Chief Joseph Memorial near Nespelem and Steamboat Rock near Electric City. Continuing South at Coulee City, this section takes you through the incredible Dry Falls, Soap Lake, Ephrata, the Rocky Ford Creek Wildlife Site onto Moses Lake, then Potholes State Park and ends in Othello. This byway takes approximately 3.5 hours to drive.
