Being the Gateway to the Olympic Peninsula, Shelton provides miles of salt and freshwater for fishing and boating while the nearby Olympic National Park and Forest offers endless hiking trails. The Forest Festival features a carnival,
car show, family fun night, logging show, vendors and festival displays, live entertainment, fun run, and a parade.

Oakland Bay Marina, open to the public, is accessed by Highway 3 and has over 100 moorage slips, pumpout, boat launch and parking. This marina is ideal to launch boats into Hammersley Inlet which is an arm of water connecting Shelton and Oakland Bay to the greater Puget Sound.

Located on the northwest side of Harstine Island in South Puget Sound, activities at Jarrell Cove include hiking and biking trails, saltwater boating, diving, fishing, swimming and water skiing, clamming, crabbing, oysters, bird and wildlife viewing, amphitheater, badminton area, horseshoe pits, volleyball field and saltwater moorage.

Open early spring through October, Mason County Recreation Area is popular for the baseball and softball fields and even has a batting cage. Enjoy a picnic and a game in this park. A seasonal concession stand is available for snacks and drinks.

Located 12 miles north of Shelton, Potlatch offers a variety of activities including saltwater boating, diving, saltwater fishing, clamming, crabbing, oysters, windsurfing, kite flying, kayaking, amphitheater, fire circles, birding and wildlife viewing and interpretive programs.

Located 12 miles north of Elma on the East Fork of the Satsop River and in the middle of Olympia and Ocean Park, Schafer Park is a prime area for fishing for steelhead, cutthroat trout and salmon in the Satsop River. Other activities include swimming and wildlife viewing.

Shorecrest Park is open year-round and features a picnic area as well as Hammersley Inlet, a launch site for the Cascadian marine Trail.

Popular for shellfish harvesting (crabbing, clamming and oysters), Twanoh features one of the warmest saltwater beaches in Washington.
