Seattle Neighborhoods
Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill, known as one of Seattle's most diverse neighborhoods, is a thriving location known for its wonderful food, nightlife and people watching!

Located just east of the downtown business and shopping district, Capitol Hill is an easy mile-and-a-half bus or cab ride up from the city's central hub. You also could walk, or drive; but be warned, the "hill" in Capitol Hill is very steep and street parking can be hard to come by.

Capitol Hill is well known as the center of Seattle's gay and artistic communities and is noted for its tolerance and acceptance among neighborhood residents. Individuality is the name of the game on Capitol Hill and you'll be hard pressed to find a block in the neighborhood without a locally-owned boutique, restaurant or coffee shop (or all three!)

Nightlife and culture are in abundance on Capitol Hill. On any given night you will find musicians of every genre performing live on stages throughout the neighborhood. New, trendy bars and restaurants pop up frequently, but some staples that have been around since the 1970's still pull a crowd nearly every night of the week. At closing time, patrons spill into the streets in search of the dozens of food trucks that have become a mainstay in the late night hours. Many restaurants also serve well into the early morning, and with plenty of eating options, you'll hit the sack happy and full!

Capitol Hill also is home to the annual "Capitol Hill Block Party." Thousands of music lovers flock to the three-day music festival in late July that draws dozens of bands, both locally and internationally known.

If you're looking for something a little more low-key, the Capitol Hill neighborhood is home to some beautiful parks; and rows and rows of large, older homes, perfect for gawking. Capitol hill is home to "Millionaire's Row," one of the wealthiest areas in the city of Seattle. Take a walk from Volunteer Park down the tree-lined, residential streets and gaze at the spectacular architecture and magnificent views of the city for a relaxing way to spend the afternoon anytime of the year.

Capitol Hill could be called two neighborhoods in one, and at nearly six square miles, it would be difficult to get the full experience of both in one day. Stay the night in one of the neighborhood's trendy boutique hotels and sample the newest foodie trend while taking in the sights and sounds of the area. The next morning take a leisurely stroll, with a cup of coffee in hand and revel in the beauty of Seattle. Capitol Hill gives you the best of both worlds.
