Puget Sound Travel Region

Allyn, Washington

Allyn, Washington is a quaint little town tucked in along the North Bay of Case Inlet on the Puget Sound among lush green land populated with pine forests and lots of undergrowth. Remote yet connected to Bremerton by highway and Seattle by ferry, Allyn has many waterfront properties that remain rustic and large. Many motorists consider Allyn's curvy forested roads among the most beautiful routes in Washington State.

Anderson Lake at Allyn's Lakeland Village, a 600-plus unit residential development with dedicated park land and environmental covenants to protect trees and the natural beauty of the area.

The Allyn Waterfront Pier provides a lovely lookout point at night, with the lights of waterfront homes reflecting in the North Bay. During the day, the pier affords a nice view of the beaches and the swimming raft as well as otters and other sea creatures who make their way up the Puget Sound into the North Bay of the Case Inlet.

The Port of Allyn docks are connected to the end of the Allyn Waterfront Pier by stairs for easy boating access to the town of Allyn. The docks have a ladder into the water that can be used for getting out after a swim. The water is salt water from the ocean, and barnacles can be seen up close on the dock supports at low tide. The port also operates a large grassy public park along the water with a huge gazebo where weddings are held.

Allyn has several large beaches where deer have been videoed walking in the middle of the day. At low tide, lots of soft sand that is nice to walk on is revealed on the beaches. Private homes line the land side of the beaches, but they are open to the public. Each June the Allyn Geoduck Derby is held on these beaches, where teams of 4 compete to dig up the largest shells with live mantles attached.

Allyn also has freshwater lakes. Devereaux Lake is the largest in town. It has a boat ramp for easy fishing access and there is a Girl Scout Camp along the shore, but other than that Devereaux Lake is in an unspoiled wilderness state. From late April through early June this is a popular fishing spot. Cutthroat Trout and Rainbow Trout are stocked in late April. Kokanee bite in Devereaux Lake in late May.

To get to Allyn from Seattle the easy way, take a ferry from Seattle to Bremerton or Port Orchard. From there, Allyn is a 17 mile drive southwest on WA-3. You can drive cars and motorcycles right on to the ferries. For ferry schedules and rates check the Washington Department of Transportation page on ferries: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/
