With the exception of limited food service at the Cold Water Ridge Visitor Center, you will have to look outside the boundaries of the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument to find food, lodging and other services. The communities are listed in terms of their distance along Interstate 5 (I-5) as measured from State Route (SR) 504, the primary access route for visiting Mount St. Helens.

Olympia, WA. 56 miles north of SR 504 on I-5. Population, 38,650.

Centralia, WA. 33 miles north of SR 504 on I-5. Population, 13,480.

Chehalis, WA. 29 miles north of SR 504 on I-5. Population, 7,035.

State Highway 504

Castle Rock, WA Intersection of SR 504 and I-5. Population, 2,115.

Toutle. About 7 miles east of I-5 on State Highway 504.

South of State Highway 504

Kelso, WA. 10 miles south of SR 504 on I-5. Population, 11,950.

Longview. 11 miles south of SR 504 on I-5. Population, 33,620.

Vancouver, WA. 49 miles south of SR 504 on I-5. Population, 127,900.

Portland, OR. 54 miles south of SR 504 on I-5.
