Jackson or Jackson Hole is located in the northwestern region of Wyoming and lies a few miles west of the Continental Divide plus close to the Grand Teton National Forest. The name Jackson Hole derives from the town bordered on all sides by mountain barriers. Jackson is named after the mountain man, trapper and trader David Jackson.
In Jackson the feeling of the "Old West" remains from the unique shops and restaurants along the boardwalks to the nightly shoot out in the town center.
Jackson's Town Square is famous for the Elk Horn Gates or four elkhorn arches at each corner. Don't worry, no elks were harmed as they shed their antlers and the townsfolk then collect them. While at the Town Square be sure to check out the world breaking, 5,300 pounds ball of barbed wire at the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum.
Another Jackson attraction is the Sleeping Indian mountain about four miles north of town. With a little bit of imagination you can spot the Indian on the horizon.
Northeast of Jackson lies the National Elk Refuge which provides sleigh rides among the elk during winter.
