Located on the Oregon Coast at Cannon Beach, Hay Stack Rock is only
1.5 hours' drive from the city of Portland, OR. Hay Stack rock is a
seashore monolith rock formation, also known as a sea stack. Accessible

looms off shore, standing at 235 feet, or 72 meters tall at low tide.
Hay Stack Rock is the third largest intertidal structure in the world.
When the tide rescinds an amazing view of the sea life and tidal pools are exposed. Filled with sea life, these pools are teeming with life since the organisms within these pools spend a great deal of their lives underwater. Tide pools at Hay Stack Rock include sea anemones, star fish, crabs, sea slugs, limpets, chitons, as well as, ocean vegetation.
Take care as you explore the shore, Hay Stack Rock is protected under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a seabird nesting colony. It is also protected under the Oregon department of fish and wildlife as a marine garden. Just like any seaside site, you should take caution while visiting since the ocean is unpredictable. Watch out for the waves and changing tides so you don't get stuck or stranded. Take note that no climbing is permitted on Hay Stack Rock since it is home to many protected animals.
